On Art, Religion, and the Poetics of Resistance

My artwork is a continuous attempt to interpret and give meaning to life individually and collectively. In the series Into Awareness I envision the paintings as thresholds that invite viewers, by means of color and movement, to visit intimate but forgotten recesses, vital but unanticipated pathways of their journeys. Here, I explore some of the polarities I see present in the creative-destructive-transformative dynamics of life:

the reaction to suffering

the certainty and resistance to death

the yearning for hope, refuge, reconciliation

My hope as an artist is to provide a transitional space in which viewers can populate the canvases with their own reflections in pursuit of multi-layered awareness. In some ways, it is also my hope that these paintings help create a space in which we can come together as humans to share, dialogue, and confront our own narratives.
